A while back I read a book on leadership called Relentless.
It’s by a man named Tim Grover.
Grover was Michael Jordan’s personal trainer.
He was also Kobe’s personal trainer, Dwayne Wade’s personal trainer… Etc.
He worked with not just good athletes, but elite-level athletes.
And as you might guess…
He wasn’t really there to make them feel nice about themselves.
That’s the job of the cheerleaders.
Instead, Grover was there to to ask the difficult questions, challenge them, and help them grow into better athletes.
That’s a leader.
He was all about taking responsibility… booking no excuses… pushing yourself… and doing the work.
Here’s what I think— If you need someone to constantly validate you, cheer you on, and give you emotional and moral support, then get yourself a cheerleader.
Or, be your own cheerleader.
Positive self-talk is great.
But it’s not the same as being a LEADER.
