So there I was, down South in the U.S. for an event, when suddenly my Uber Driver tells me he used to be one of a VP of one of the largest investment banks in the US.
Turns out this guy was an investment banker with one of the big banks for 15-20 years. Until disaster struck…
He was offered a job to go to South America and head up a division there. But his kids were young, his wife was reticent, and they didn’t relish the idea of moving to an entirely new country and starting fresh.
So he turns the job down.
This upsets a lot of people in his office.
Because THEY would’ve killed for that offer.
So they think he’s gotten too big for himself.
And the office becomes toxic.
So he leaves…
Starts his own company…
And goes bankrupt.
Which is why he’s now driving an Uber.
So I asked him, “If you could go back in time and take that job, that head of the department job in South America, would you do it?”
