Ever wondered what happens when you get in a really high end car, turn it on, and apply both gas and brake at the same time?
The brakes generate heat.
A lot of heat.
Enough heat to cause the rotors to glow red hot, destroy the seals in the caliper, and warp the slider pins in the brake pad.
It only takes a few minutes to trash the brake system in a car…
And yet most entrepreneurs do this for YEARS.
(You knew this wasn’t going to REALLY be a post about cars, didn’t you?)
It’s called burnout.
And here’s what causes it in consultants & entrepreneurs:
It’s when you make a commitment in your head (that’s the gas) but don’t follow through with your actions (that’s the brake).
It’s when you say “I need to wait a year…”
“Give me a year and I’ll get new consulting clients.”
“Give me a year and I’ll quit my job.”
“Give me a year and I’ll be making 6 figures per month.”
Hear that?
That’s the squeal of tires spinning furiously.
A year comes and goes.
Some people make it.
Others are just that much closer to burnout.
Nobody needs a full year to do anything.
Three months, maybe.
TOPS.
Time is not the issue.
The issue is that nobody is asking themselves THIS question:
