Harsh truth: No one cares how long it takes you to do the work.
I recently hired my 16-year-old nephew to do some landscaping.
We were negotiating the price and he started asking questions like:
“How much will you pay me per hour?”
“How long do you think it will take?”
My response…
“I don’t know what your rate should be and I don’t care how long it takes.”
He seemed confused.
So I taught him a quick masterless him how to price based on value, not time.
The result?
He made double what he would’ve made had I paid him hourly.
An important lesson here if you’re a consultant or a service provider…
STOP SELLING TIME
Clients don’t care what your rate is or how long it takes.
They only care about one thing.
The result… and what it’s worth to them.
Charge accordingly.
