If you ever have an opportunity to find out what people think of you, take it.
I was chatting with a prospect the other day.
And he said to me:
“I see you as a business coach with a marketing focus.”
Whether or not I agree with that statement is beside the point.
Knowing how an outsider sees my brand positioning is invaluable.
It allows me to gauge whether the message I’m putting out is working.
Whether all the work I’m doing to “position” myself is actually doing its job.
If you get this kind of feedback and you like what you hear, it gives you the confidence to keep doing what you’re doing… because it’s working!
And if you don’t like what you hear, that’s valuable too.
Because then you can take a look at your positioning and messaging to figure out where you’re going wrong.
Why don’t people see you the way you want them to see you?
Bottom line:
Get other people to tell you how they see you as often as possible. Use their feedback to refine your positioning. Rinse and repeat.
