Good is not good enough

Here’s a commonly held belief that drives me absolutely nuts.

“The work should speak for itself.”

Heard this one before?

We like to believe our work should be so brilliant that it “speaks for itself”…

In other words, if you focus entirely on producing better work, that’s all the “marketing you need”…

Well here’s the big problem with that belief.

Are there people in your industry who are NOT as talented as you… but are more successful?

I can guarantee you there are.

They’re not as smart as you.

They’re not better than you at the craft.

They don’t produce better work.

They’re just better at marketing.

Bottom line…

You should strive to be the best at what you do.

But that’s not good enough.

You should also strive to be the best at marketing what you do.

Then you’ll be unstoppable.
